Job Description
We are seeking a proactive and skilled Public Affairs Coordinator with a strong media focus to join our team in Rockhampton. This role is crucial for managing our corporate reputation, facilitating effective communication with media outlets, and supporting our community engagement initiatives. You will be instrumental in developing and executing media strategies, preparing communications materials, and acting as a key point of contact for media inquiries related to our operations in the region.
Key Responsibilities
- Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with local and regional media representatives.
- Draft and edit compelling press releases, media advisories, statements, and other communication materials.
- Monitor media coverage, track relevant news, and prepare daily media summaries.
- Coordinate media interviews, site visits, and press conferences, ensuring spokespeople are well-briefed.
- Support the development and implementation of public affairs strategies and campaigns.
- Assist in crisis communication efforts, including preparing holding statements and managing media responses.
- Collaborate with internal teams to gather information and ensure consistent messaging.
- Organize and support community engagement events and initiatives.
- Maintain a comprehensive media contact database.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related field.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in public relations, media relations, or corporate communications.
- Demonstrated ability to write clear, concise, and compelling content for various media channels.
- Strong understanding of media landscapes and news cycles in Australia.
- Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in media monitoring tools and public relations software.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage multiple priorities.
- Proven experience in stakeholder engagement.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working within the energy, utilities, or resources sector.
- Prior experience in a regional public affairs role.
- Established network of media contacts in Central Queensland.
- Basic knowledge of graphic design principles and tools for simple content creation.
