Job Description
We are seeking a dynamic and highly motivated Public Affairs Coordinator with a strong media focus to join our team in Surfers Paradise. In this role, you will be instrumental in supporting Telstra’s media relations efforts, monitoring news coverage, assisting with content creation, and coordinating communication strategies. This is an exciting opportunity for someone passionate about public relations and media, looking to make a significant impact within a leading Australian company.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the development and execution of media relations strategies and campaigns.
- Monitor traditional and social media for relevant news, trends, and competitor activities.
- Draft media materials including press releases, media advisories, backgrounders, and Q&As.
- Coordinate media inquiries and requests, ensuring timely and accurate responses.
- Support the preparation of spokespersons for media interviews and public appearances.
- Maintain and update media contact lists and databases.
- Contribute to internal communication initiatives as required.
- Compile media coverage reports and provide analysis of key insights.
- Organise and facilitate media events and briefings.
Required Skills
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated understanding of media relations principles and practices.
- Proficiency in media monitoring tools and platforms.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
- High level of attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related field.
- Previous experience in a media relations or public affairs role, particularly within a corporate or agency setting.
- Familiarity with the telecommunications industry landscape.
- Experience with content management systems (CMS).
