Job Description

We are seeking enthusiastic and community-minded individuals to join our team as Usher / Door Stewards. This vital part-time role supports the seamless execution of various church services and community events held across the City of Glenorchy. As an Usher / Door Steward, you will be the friendly face of our events, responsible for creating a welcoming atmosphere, assisting attendees, and ensuring the comfort and safety of everyone present. This position requires excellent interpersonal skills, reliability, and a proactive approach to customer service in a dynamic event environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Warmly welcome and direct attendees to appropriate seating or areas within event venues.
  • Provide clear and helpful information regarding event schedules, facility locations, and emergency exits.
  • Monitor entry points and manage attendee flow to ensure a safe, orderly, and pleasant experience for all.
  • Offer assistance to attendees with special needs, including those requiring accessibility support.
  • Distribute event programs, informational brochures, or materials as required for specific gatherings.
  • Handle minor inquiries or issues independently and escalate more complex concerns to event organizers.
  • Ensure event spaces remain tidy and presentable throughout the event, and assist with light setup or pack-down as needed.
  • Act as a visible, approachable, and professional point of contact for all attendees, embodying the spirit of community.

Required Skills

  • Excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills, with a genuine desire to help others.
  • A friendly, approachable, and consistently professional demeanor.
  • The physical ability to stand for extended periods, walk around event spaces, and assist with light tasks.
  • Strong attention to detail and the capacity to follow instructions precisely.
  • Outstanding reliability, punctuality, and a strong work ethic.
  • A basic understanding of customer service principles and the importance of a positive attendee experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a customer service, hospitality, or event support capacity.
  • Current First Aid certification or a willingness to obtain one.
  • Good knowledge of local community facilities, services, and the Glenorchy area.
  • Flexibility to work varied hours, which may include evenings, weekends, and public holidays, based on event schedules.
