Job Description
Join the Wyndham City Council team as a Turf Maintenance Hand and play a crucial role in maintaining the pristine condition of our diverse public spaces, including golf courses, sports fields, and extensive parklands across the Hoppers Crossing area. This ongoing full-time position offers a fantastic opportunity to work outdoors, contributing directly to the beauty and usability of our community’s green assets. You will be part of a supportive team, utilizing a range of equipment and techniques to ensure our turf areas meet the highest standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform regular mowing, trimming, and edging of turf areas using various machinery.
- Undertake aeration, topdressing, and fertilizing tasks to promote healthy turf growth.
- Assist with irrigation system checks, repairs, and adjustments.
- Identify and treat turf diseases, pests, and weeds.
- Operate and maintain a range of small plant and equipment, including ride-on mowers, whipper snippers, and blowers.
- Assist with general grounds maintenance, including litter collection and minor repairs.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and maintain a safe working environment.
- Report any equipment malfunctions or maintenance issues promptly.
- Work collaboratively within a team to achieve daily and weekly maintenance schedules.
Required Skills
- Demonstrated experience in turf maintenance or general groundskeeping.
- Ability to operate various turf maintenance equipment safely and efficiently.
- Basic knowledge of horticulture principles and turf care practices.
- Strong physical fitness and ability to perform manual labor in various weather conditions.
- A valid Australian Driver's License.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Commitment to workplace health and safety.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certificate III in Parks and Gardens, Horticulture, or a related field.
- Experience with irrigation systems maintenance.
- Current First Aid Certificate.
- White Card (Construction Induction).
