Job Description

Are you eager to kickstart a career in the trades? Pirie Plumbing & Maintenance is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Trades Assistant to join our growing team as a Plumber’s Offsider. This is an incredible opportunity for someone with little to no experience who is keen to learn the plumbing trade from the ground up. You will work closely with qualified plumbers, assisting them on various job sites across Port Pirie and the surrounding regions. This role is perfect for a hands-on individual looking for practical experience and a pathway to a rewarding career.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist qualified plumbers with a wide range of tasks on residential, commercial, and industrial sites.
  • Prepare work areas, ensuring they are clean, safe, and ready for plumbing work.
  • Help with the loading and unloading of tools, equipment, and materials.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of tools, vehicles, and job sites.
  • Perform basic laboring duties as directed, such as digging trenches, carrying pipes, and moving fixtures.
  • Learn and apply basic plumbing techniques under supervision.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols and company policies at all times.
  • Support the team in completing projects efficiently and to a high standard.
  • Develop a strong understanding of plumbing systems and components.

Required Skills

  • Strong work ethic and a positive, can-do attitude.
  • Reliable and punctual with a willingness to learn.
  • Ability to follow instructions accurately and efficiently.
  • Basic physical fitness to handle manual labor and lift moderate weights.
  • A valid Australian driver’s license (or willingness to obtain one).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Hold a current White Card (Construction Induction Card).
  • Basic understanding of tools and their uses.
  • Previous experience in a laboring or assistant role (any industry).
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
