Job Description
Are you a compassionate and enthusiastic nursing student looking to gain invaluable practical experience in a dynamic hospital environment? Cairns Hospital is seeking motivated Junior Nursing Assistants to join our team. This part-time role is perfect for students currently undertaking nursing studies who are eager to apply their theoretical knowledge, develop essential clinical skills, and contribute meaningfully to patient care under direct supervision. You will work alongside experienced nurses and healthcare professionals, providing vital support and enhancing the patient experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist patients with daily living activities, including personal hygiene, mobility, and feeding, ensuring comfort and dignity.
- Monitor and report changes in patient condition, vital signs, and overall well-being to supervising nurses promptly.
- Support nurses in various patient care tasks, such as preparing examination rooms, restocking supplies, and maintaining a tidy environment.
- Assist with patient transfers and ambulation using appropriate equipment and techniques.
- Maintain accurate and confidential patient records as directed.
- Adhere to all hospital policies, procedures, and safety guidelines, including infection control protocols.
- Communicate effectively and empathetically with patients, families, and the healthcare team.
Required Skills
- Currently enrolled in an accredited Diploma or Bachelor of Nursing program.
- Demonstrated genuine interest in patient care and a compassionate approach.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to follow instructions accurately and work effectively within a team.
- Basic computer literacy for documentation purposes.
- Understanding of patient privacy and confidentiality principles.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a healthcare or aged care setting (volunteer or paid).
- Current First Aid and CPR certification.
- Availability for various shifts, including weekends and public holidays.
- Completion of relevant clinical placements within nursing program.
