Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and physically fit Public Works Labourer to join our Infrastructure Projects team. This vital role involves assisting with the construction, maintenance, and repair of public infrastructure across Victor Harbor, including roads, pathways, drainage systems, and public spaces. You will work as part of a dynamic team, contributing to projects that directly impact the safety, accessibility, and aesthetic appeal of our beautiful city. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals keen to develop practical skills and contribute meaningfully to their community.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform manual labour tasks such as digging, lifting, carrying, and clearing debris.
  • Assist skilled tradespeople in construction and maintenance activities (e.g., road patching, concrete pouring, landscaping).
  • Operate hand and power tools safely and efficiently under supervision.
  • Load and unload materials, supplies, and equipment at job sites.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment, adhering to all Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) policies and procedures.
  • Assist with traffic control setup and management around work zones.
  • Conduct routine inspections and report on the condition of public assets.
  • Participate in emergency response efforts as required.

Required Skills

  • Strong physical fitness and stamina for demanding manual tasks.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work effectively as part of a team.
  • Basic understanding of workplace safety procedures.
  • Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic.
  • Valid Australian Driver's License (Class C).
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment medical and drug and alcohol screening.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a construction, landscaping, or public works environment.
  • White Card (Construction Induction Card).
  • Experience operating small plant machinery (e.g., plate compactors, jackhammers).
  • First Aid certification.
