Job Description

Are you passionate about environmental sustainability and community engagement? Cleanaway is seeking a dynamic and enthusiastic Recycling Education Officer to join our team in Lismore, NSW. In this vital role, you will be responsible for developing and delivering engaging educational programs to schools, community groups, and the general public, promoting best practices in recycling, waste reduction, and resource recovery. You will be a key advocate for sustainable living, empowering individuals and communities to make informed choices that protect our planet.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver interactive recycling and waste reduction educational programs for diverse audiences, including schools, businesses, and community groups.
  • Organise and facilitate community workshops, presentations, and outreach events.
  • Create engaging educational materials such as brochures, presentations, and digital content.
  • Collaborate with local councils and community organisations to identify educational needs and opportunities.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of educational programs, providing reports and recommendations for improvement.
  • Act as a local expert and point of contact for waste and recycling inquiries from the community.
  • Promote Cleanaway's services and sustainability initiatives through various communication channels.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience in environmental education, community outreach, or a related field.
  • Excellent presentation, public speaking, and communication skills.
  • Ability to engage and inspire diverse audiences, including children and adults.
  • Strong understanding of recycling principles, waste management practices, and environmental issues.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
  • Valid Australian Driver's License and willingness to travel locally.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Tertiary qualification in Environmental Science, Education, Communications, or a related discipline.
  • Experience working with local government or community organisations.
  • Knowledge of local Lismore and Northern Rivers waste management strategies.
  • Experience in content creation for educational purposes (e.g., video, graphic design).
