Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and organised Public School Receptionist to join our administrative team. This full-time position, Monday to Friday, is crucial for the smooth operation of our school, acting as the first point of contact for students, parents, staff, and visitors. The ideal candidate will be a friendly, professional, and efficient individual with excellent communication and organisational skills, capable of managing a busy front office environment in a public school setting. While the role is based at our Sandy Bay campus, the duties reflect the standard administrative needs found in public schools across all suburbs.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the main reception area, greeting visitors and directing inquiries appropriately.
- Answer and direct incoming phone calls, managing general school communications.
- Handle student attendance records, late arrivals, and early departures.
- Assist with general administrative tasks, including data entry, filing, and photocopying.
- Distribute mail, manage school correspondence, and prepare documents.
- Provide administrative support to teaching staff and school leadership as required.
- Maintain a tidy and professional reception area.
- Assist with school event coordination and parent communication.
- Ensure compliance with school policies and procedures, particularly regarding child safety.
- Manage bookings for school facilities and parent-teacher interviews.
Required Skills
- Proven experience in a reception or administrative role, preferably in an educational or public sector environment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to multitask and prioritise in a fast-paced environment.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills with a friendly and professional demeanour.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certificate III or IV in Business Administration or a related field.
- Experience with school management systems (e.g., Sentral, EduPoint).
- Knowledge of public education system protocols and procedures in Tasmania.
- Current Working With Vulnerable People (WWVP) check or willingness to obtain one.
