Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Entry Level Pipe Layer Assistant to join our growing civil works team in Darwin, NT. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals eager to start a career in civil construction, providing essential support to our experienced pipe layers. You will play a crucial role in preparing trenches, handling materials, and assisting with the installation and maintenance of pipelines for various infrastructure projects. No prior experience is required, as comprehensive on-the-job training will be provided.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist experienced pipe layers with the installation, maintenance, and repair of various pipe systems (e.g., storm water, sewerage, water mains).
  • Perform manual labour tasks such as digging, trenching, backfilling, and compaction.
  • Help with the safe handling, loading, and unloading of pipes, fittings, and other construction materials.
  • Operate basic hand and power tools under supervision.
  • Maintain a clean and organised work area, ensuring tools and equipment are properly stored.
  • Adhere strictly to all site safety procedures and protocols, including wearing appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Assist with site preparation and clean-up duties.
  • Learn and apply best practices for pipe laying and civil construction.
  • Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors.

Required Skills

  • Strong work ethic and willingness to learn.
  • Ability to follow instructions accurately and efficiently.
  • Good physical fitness and ability to perform manual labour in various weather conditions.
  • Reliable and punctual with a commitment to attendance.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Basic understanding of site safety (or willingness to obtain).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Current 'White Card' (Construction Induction Card) for working on construction sites in Australia.
  • Valid Australian Driver's License.
  • Previous experience in a general labourer role (even non-construction related).
  • First Aid certification.
