Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Perioperative Nurse to join our surgical team at Griffith Base Hospital on a full-time contract basis. This is an exceptional opportunity for experienced nurses looking to advance their careers in a supportive regional setting, with comprehensive visa support provided for eligible international candidates. As a Perioperative Nurse, you will play a critical role in all phases of patient care within the operating theatre, including pre-operative assessment, intra-operative assistance, and post-operative recovery. You will work within a multidisciplinary team, ensuring the highest standards of safety, quality, and patient-focused care are maintained. Key Responsibilities
- Provide expert nursing care to patients throughout the perioperative continuum (pre-operative, intra-operative, and post-operative phases).
- Assist surgeons and anaesthetists during surgical procedures, including scrubbing, scouting, and circulating duties.
- Ensure a safe, sterile, and efficient operating theatre environment.
- Monitor patient vital signs, administer medications, and manage patient comfort before, during, and after surgery.
- Maintain accurate and comprehensive patient records and documentation.
- Collaborate effectively with the surgical team, including surgeons, anaesthetists, and other healthcare professionals.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and adhere to all hospital policies and procedures.
- Educate patients and their families regarding surgical procedures and post-operative care.
Required Skills
- Current registration as a Registered Nurse with AHPRA (or eligibility for registration).
- Minimum of 2 years of post-graduate experience in a perioperative nursing setting.
- Demonstrated expertise in scrubbing, scouting, and circulating roles.
- Sound knowledge of surgical procedures, aseptic technique, and infection control.
- Excellent clinical assessment and critical thinking skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
- Commitment to continuous professional development.
Preferred Qualifications
- Post-graduate qualification in Perioperative Nursing or a related specialty.
- Experience working in a regional or rural healthcare setting.
- Advanced Life Support (ALS) certification.
- Proficiency in electronic health record (EHR) systems.
- Experience with diverse surgical specialties.
