Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and physically fit Oyster Farm Assistant to join our growing team. This is a hands-on role vital to the success of our oyster cultivation operations. You will be working outdoors in various weather conditions, primarily on the water, assisting with all stages of oyster farming from seed to harvest. We provide all necessary waders and protective gear, ensuring you are equipped for success in this high-energy environment. Key Responsibilities
- Assist with the deployment and retrieval of oyster aquaculture gear, including cages, bags, and rafts.
- Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of oyster gear to ensure optimal growing conditions.
- Sort, grade, and count oysters according to size and quality specifications.
- Participate in harvesting operations, including loading and unloading shellfish.
- Operate and maintain small boats and farm equipment under supervision.
- Monitor water quality and environmental conditions, reporting any anomalies.
- Follow strict biosecurity protocols and food safety guidelines.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment, both on and off the water.
Required Skills
- Ability to perform strenuous physical labor for extended periods in outdoor weather conditions.
- Comfortable working in and around water.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions.
- Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs repeatedly.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in aquaculture, farming, or other outdoor labor roles.
- Familiarity with marine environments and basic boating safety.
- Basic mechanical aptitude for equipment maintenance.
