Job Description
We are excited to offer a unique Occupational Therapy Student Placement opportunity within our dynamic NDIS services team in Laverton, VIC. This placement is designed for enthusiastic and dedicated Occupational Therapy students seeking hands-on experience in a real-world NDIS environment. You will work alongside experienced OTs, gaining invaluable insight into client assessment, goal setting, intervention planning, and report writing within the NDIS framework. This is a fantastic chance to apply your academic knowledge, develop clinical skills, and contribute to meaningful outcomes for individuals with diverse needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist qualified Occupational Therapists in conducting client assessments and developing individualised therapy plans.
- Participate in therapy sessions, observing and gradually co-facilitating interventions under direct supervision.
- Support in the preparation of NDIS reports, including progress reports and funding applications.
- Engage with clients and their families to understand their goals and facilitate participation in daily activities.
- Maintain accurate and confidential client records in line with organisational policies and NDIS guidelines.
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to ensure holistic and coordinated client care.
- Actively participate in supervision meetings, team discussions, and professional development opportunities.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and professional standards of practice.
Required Skills
- Currently enrolled in an accredited Occupational Therapy degree program.
- Strong theoretical understanding of occupational therapy principles and practices.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team and take direction.
- Empathy, patience, and a genuine passion for working with people with disabilities.
- Basic computer literacy and ability to learn new software.
- Commitment to professional ethics and client-centred care.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous volunteer or observational experience in a healthcare or disability setting.
- Familiarity with the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) framework.
- Valid Working With Children Check (WWCC) or ability to obtain one prior to placement commencement.
- Current First Aid and CPR certification.
