Job Description

As a Home Affairs Border Support officer, you will play a vital role in upholding Australia’s national security framework and safeguarding our borders. This position involves supporting critical operations that contribute to the detection, deterrence, and response to threats, ensuring compliance with Australian law, and facilitating legitimate trade and travel. You will work within a dedicated team, utilising your analytical skills and commitment to public service to contribute directly to the safety and security of the nation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct preliminary assessments and analysis of intelligence and data related to border security risks.
  • Support investigations into potential breaches of immigration, customs, and national security legislation.
  • Assist in the preparation of reports and briefings for senior officers on evolving threats and operational outcomes.
  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders, including law enforcement and intelligence agencies, under supervision.
  • Maintain accurate records and ensure compliance with departmental policies and procedures.
  • Participate in training and development to enhance knowledge of national security protocols and border operations.
  • Contribute to incident response and operational support as required.

Required Skills

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and ability to work under pressure.
  • Proficiency in using IT systems and database applications.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Sound understanding of or willingness to learn about Australian national security and border protection policies.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain an Australian Government security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Tertiary qualification in fields such as Criminology, Law, International Relations, or Public Policy.
  • Previous experience in a law enforcement, security, or government agency environment.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation pertaining to customs, immigration, or national security.
  • Additional language proficiencies.
  • A current Australian driver's license.
