Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Fire Protection Coordinator to join our construction team in Glenelg, South Australia. This critical role involves overseeing all fire protection systems and compliance throughout the construction lifecycle of our projects. The successful candidate will ensure that all fire safety installations meet relevant Australian standards, building codes, and project specifications. You will be responsible for coordinating with various stakeholders, including subcontractors, consultants, and regulatory bodies, to ensure seamless integration and timely completion of fire protection elements. This is an excellent opportunity for a detail-oriented professional with a strong understanding of fire safety regulations and construction practices to contribute to large-scale, impactful projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and supervise the installation, testing, and commissioning of fire protection systems including sprinklers, hydrants, hose reels, fire alarms, and passive fire measures.
  • Ensure all fire protection works comply with Australian Standards (AS), National Construction Code (NCC), and local regulatory requirements.
  • Review fire protection drawings, specifications, and schedules to identify potential issues and ensure constructability.
  • Liaise with fire engineers, consultants, and subcontractors to resolve design and installation conflicts.
  • Conduct regular site inspections to monitor progress, quality, and adherence to safety protocols for fire protection works.
  • Manage the fire services commissioning process, including defect rectification and handover documentation.
  • Maintain comprehensive records of all fire protection system installations, tests, and maintenance.
  • Provide technical advice and support to project teams on fire safety matters.
  • Participate in project meetings and provide updates on fire protection progress and issues.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a Fire Protection Coordinator or similar role in the construction industry (minimum 3 years).
  • Thorough understanding of Australian Standards (AS) related to fire protection, including AS 2118, AS 1670, AS 1851.
  • Strong knowledge of the National Construction Code (NCC) and local fire safety regulations.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and technical documents.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective stakeholder engagement.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Relevant trade qualification or diploma in Fire Protection, Building Services, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Experience with large-scale commercial or residential construction projects.
  • Current White Card (Construction Induction Card).
  • Familiarity with Building Information Modeling (BIM) software.
