Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and resilient Fire Communications Officer to join our critical response team based in Greenway, ACT. This is an immediate hire opportunity for individuals ready to make a significant impact on community safety. As a Fire Communications Officer, you will be the vital link between the public and our emergency services, responsible for receiving, processing, and dispatching emergency calls with precision and calm under pressure. You will operate advanced communication systems and maintain accurate records in a fast-paced, high-stress environment, directly contributing to saving lives and protecting property.

Key Responsibilities

  • Receive and accurately process emergency calls (000) for fire and other incidents.
  • Prioritise and dispatch appropriate ACT Fire & Rescue resources promptly and efficiently.
  • Maintain clear and concise radio communication with fire ground personnel and other emergency services.
  • Document all incident details, resource movements, and critical information accurately in real-time.
  • Provide essential support and information to emergency crews and the public during incidents.
  • Operate and monitor sophisticated computer-aided dispatch (CAD) systems and other communication technologies.
  • Adhere strictly to standard operating procedures and emergency protocols.
  • Participate in ongoing training and professional development activities to maintain proficiency.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in an emergency services dispatch or contact centre environment.
  • Knowledge of the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) geography and road networks.
  • Formal qualifications in emergency management, public safety, or a related field.
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Experience with computer-aided dispatch (CAD) systems.
