Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Financial Controller (Assistant) to join our dynamic team in Gosford. This role offers an excellent opportunity to contribute to the financial management of our professional firm, supporting senior leadership in maintaining robust financial controls, reporting, and analysis. The ideal candidate will have a strong accounting background, excellent analytical skills, and a proactive approach to problem-solving. You will play a crucial role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of our financial data, supporting strategic decisions, and enhancing operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with relevant accounting standards.
  • Support the Financial Controller in managing general ledger operations, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
  • Reconcile bank statements, intercompany accounts, and other key balance sheet accounts.
  • Oversee accounts payable and accounts receivable functions, ensuring timely processing and collections.
  • Assist with budgeting and forecasting processes, providing insightful analysis and variance explanations.
  • Contribute to the implementation and maintenance of strong internal controls and financial policies.
  • Prepare various financial reports and analyses to support management decision-making.
  • Liaise with external auditors and assist with year-end audit requirements.
  • Help identify opportunities for process improvements and efficiency gains within the finance department.
  • Support ad-hoc financial projects and initiatives as required.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • CPA/CA qualification (or actively pursuing).
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in a similar accounting or finance role, preferably within a professional services environment.
  • Strong understanding of Australian Accounting Standards (AASB) and financial reporting.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Xero, MYOB, SAP) and advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • High level of attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with practice management software.
  • Previous experience in a Financial Controller (Assistant) capacity.
  • Proven track record of implementing process improvements.
  • Strong presentation skills for financial data to non-finance stakeholders.
