Job Description
GHD is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Environmental Science Student to join our dynamic team in Traralgon for a paid internship. This is an excellent opportunity for a student currently undertaking studies in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or a related field, to gain practical, hands-on experience in field research and environmental sampling. You will work alongside experienced environmental consultants on a variety of projects, contributing to real-world environmental solutions. This role is perfect for someone passionate about environmental protection, eager to learn, and comfortable with fieldwork in diverse conditions.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist senior environmental scientists with fieldwork, including data collection and environmental sampling (soil, water, air).
- Learn and apply standard operating procedures for various sampling techniques.
- Operate and maintain field equipment under supervision.
- Record accurate and detailed field notes, observations, and data.
- Support data entry, analysis, and report preparation.
- Adhere to all health, safety, and environmental protocols.
- Conduct literature reviews and background research for ongoing projects.
- Contribute to project planning and logistics as required.
Required Skills
- Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or postgraduate degree program in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Earth Sciences, or a related discipline.
- Basic understanding of environmental principles and concepts.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions accurately.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Valid Australian driver's license (or ability to obtain one).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel).
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience with field sampling techniques (e.g., soil, water).
- Familiarity with GIS software.
- Knowledge of Australian environmental regulations.
- First Aid certification.
- Construction Induction Card (White Card).
