Job Description
Join GHD as an Ecological Restorer and contribute to impactful environmental projects in the Footscray region and wider Victoria. This hands-on role involves implementing and monitoring ecological restoration plans, enhancing biodiversity, and rehabilitating natural habitats. You will work as part of a dedicated environmental team, applying best practice techniques to achieve positive ecological outcomes. Key Responsibilities
- Implement ecological restoration plans, including native planting, weed identification and removal, and erosion control measures.
- Monitor site conditions, track species regeneration, and collect ecological data for reporting.
- Operate and maintain a range of field equipment, including small machinery, hand tools, and GPS devices.
- Contribute to the development and refinement of restoration methodologies and techniques.
- Adhere strictly to all occupational health and safety (OH&S) protocols and environmental regulations.
- Collaborate effectively with team members, clients, and stakeholders to achieve project objectives.
- Assist with ecological surveys, biodiversity assessments, and environmental impact assessments as required.
Required Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Ecology, Conservation Biology, or a closely related field.
- Minimum of 2 years practical experience in ecological restoration, bush regeneration, or similar field work.
- Strong native and introduced plant identification skills specific to Victorian ecosystems.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a field-based environment, often in varied weather conditions and challenging terrain.
- Knowledge of Australian environmental legislation and best practice guidelines for restoration.
- Current Australian driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certifications in chainsaw operation, chemical handling (e.g., ACDC), or construction induction (White Card).
- Experience with geographic information systems (GIS) for mapping and data management.
- Current First Aid and CPR certification.
- Familiarity with local government environmental policies and community engagement practices.
- Experience in fauna habitat assessment and restoration.
