Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Earthmoving Mechanic to join our field service team in Gladstone, QLD. This crucial role involves diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a wide range of Caterpillar heavy earthmoving equipment directly at customer sites. You will be an ambassador for Hastings Deering, ensuring our customers receive prompt, efficient, and expert service, minimizing downtime and maximizing equipment performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform diagnostic assessments and troubleshooting on complex mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems of Caterpillar earthmoving equipment.
- Execute repairs, scheduled maintenance, and preventative maintenance tasks on-site at various customer locations.
- Conduct thorough inspections and identify potential issues before they lead to major breakdowns.
- Utilize specialized diagnostic tools and software to identify faults accurately.
- Adhere strictly to all safety protocols and company policies, promoting a safe working environment.
- Complete detailed service reports, job cards, and documentation accurately and on time.
- Provide technical support and guidance to customers as needed.
- Maintain service vehicle and equipment in excellent working order.
- Participate in ongoing training and development to stay current with Caterpillar technology and best practices.
Required Skills
- Trade Qualification as an Earthmoving Diesel Mechanic, Heavy Vehicle Mechanic, or equivalent.
- Minimum of 3 years of post-apprenticeship experience with heavy earthmoving equipment, preferably Caterpillar.
- Proven experience in field service operations, including strong diagnostic and troubleshooting abilities.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting hydraulic and electrical schematics.
- Strong understanding of mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems.
- Current Australian Driver's License (HR class desirable).
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Commitment to safety and high-quality workmanship.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with CAT ET and other Caterpillar diagnostic software.
- High Risk Work Licenses (e.g., Forklift, EWP).
- First Aid certification.
- Experience with other heavy equipment brands.
- Vocational training or diplomas related to heavy machinery maintenance.
