Job Description

We are seeking a proactive and passionate Community Development Officer to join our dynamic team. This role focuses on the planning, development, and implementation of various local council projects aimed at enhancing community well-being, social cohesion, and participation within the Footscray area. You will work closely with residents, community groups, local businesses, and council departments to identify needs, secure resources, and deliver impactful initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify community needs and opportunities through consultation and research.
  • Plan, develop, and manage community development projects from inception to completion.
  • Facilitate community meetings, workshops, and events to encourage participation and collaboration.
  • Liaise with internal Council departments, external agencies, and community groups.
  • Prepare project proposals, reports, and funding applications.
  • Monitor and evaluate project outcomes, ensuring alignment with Council strategies.
  • Manage project budgets and resources effectively.
  • Promote Council initiatives and services to the wider community.

Required Skills

  • Demonstrated experience in community development or a related field.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Proven ability to engage and build relationships with diverse community groups.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Understanding of local government processes and community development principles.
  • Valid Australian Driver's License.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Tertiary qualification in Community Development, Social Work, Public Policy, or a related discipline.
  • Experience working with multicultural communities.
  • Familiarity with the Footscray and Maribyrnong City Council area.
  • Knowledge of funding application and grant writing processes.
