Job Description
Are you a dedicated cat lover looking for a rewarding role where you can make a genuine difference? RSPCA Queensland is seeking a passionate Cattery Assistant to join our compassionate team in Rockhampton on a flexible, casual basis. If you have a deep affection for felines and a strong work ethic, we want to hear from you! Your role is vital in ensuring our cats receive the highest standard of care, comfort, and love while awaiting their forever homes.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide daily feeding, watering, and enrichment for cats in our care.
- Maintain the cleanliness and hygiene of cattery enclosures, common areas, and equipment to a high standard.
- Monitor the health and behaviour of cats, reporting any changes or concerns to senior staff.
- Administer medication as directed by veterinary staff.
- Assist with handling and restraining cats safely and humanely.
- Engage with potential adopters, providing information about our cats and adoption processes.
- Participate in laundry and cleaning duties related to the cattery.
Required Skills
- A genuine and demonstrable love for cats and their welfare.
- Reliability and punctuality for scheduled shifts.
- Ability to follow instructions meticulously and work independently or as part of a team.
- Basic physical fitness to perform tasks such as lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.
- Effective verbal communication skills.
- Comfortable working in an environment with various cat personalities and health conditions.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in an animal care setting (e.g., cattery, vet clinic, shelter).
- Knowledge of basic cat behaviour and common health indicators.
- Current First Aid certificate (human or animal).
