Job Description

We are seeking an enthusiastic and highly skilled Canyoning Instructor to join our growing team. This role is perfect for an experienced adventurer passionate about leading groups through dynamic natural environments, ensuring safety, and delivering an exhilarating experience. As a Canyoning Instructor, you will guide participants of varying skill levels through challenging canyons, teaching essential techniques and promoting environmental stewardship. This is a hands-on role requiring excellent leadership, problem-solving abilities, and a commitment to safety protocols.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise groups during canyoning expeditions, ensuring strict adherence to safety standards and procedures.
  • Provide clear, concise, and engaging instruction on canyoning techniques, equipment use, and risk management.
  • Conduct pre-trip briefings, equipment checks, and post-trip debriefings.
  • Assess environmental conditions and adapt tour plans as necessary to ensure participant safety and enjoyment.
  • Maintain all canyoning equipment, performing routine checks and reporting any damage or wear.
  • Administer first aid and emergency response when required, maintaining up-to-date certifications.
  • Foster a positive, encouraging, and memorable experience for all participants.
  • Promote environmental awareness and 'leave no trace' principles.
  • Assist with route planning and scouting for new canyoning locations.

Required Skills

  • Minimum 2 years (24 months) experience as a Canyoning Instructor or similar outdoor adventure guide role.
  • Demonstrated expertise in ropes skills, rappelling, scrambling, and water safety.
  • Current Wilderness First Aid (WFA) or Remote Area First Aid (RAFA) certification.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and decision-making skills under pressure.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team and independently.
  • Excellent physical fitness and ability to navigate challenging terrain.
  • Valid Australian Driver's License.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced canyoning instructor certification from a recognized national or international body (e.g., ACA, ICOpro).
  • Experience in other adventure activities such as rock climbing, abseiling, or swiftwater rescue.
  • Knowledge of the Capricorn Coast and Central Queensland region's geology and ecology.
  • Experience working with diverse age groups and skill levels.
  • Relevant tertiary qualification in Outdoor Education, Recreation, or a related field.
