Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Bioenergy Plant Operator to join our team in Wagga Wagga. The successful candidate will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of our bioenergy plant, ensuring optimal performance, environmental compliance, and sustainability. This role involves monitoring, controlling, and maintaining plant equipment, conducting routine inspections, and responding to operational events to ensure continuous and reliable energy production from sustainable sources.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate and monitor all bioenergy plant equipment and systems, including gasifiers, engines, generators, and auxiliary systems, from a central control room and on-site.
- Perform routine inspections, preventative maintenance, and minor repairs on plant machinery and equipment.
- Collect and analyse operational data, ensuring accurate record-keeping and reporting of plant performance.
- Identify and troubleshoot operational issues, implementing corrective actions promptly and safely.
- Ensure strict adherence to all safety protocols, environmental regulations, and company policies.
- Participate in the development and implementation of plant optimisation strategies to enhance efficiency and sustainability.
- Assist with the loading and unloading of biomass feedstocks and other materials.
- Collaborate with maintenance, engineering, and environmental teams to ensure seamless plant operation.
- Respond to alarms, emergencies, and system anomalies in accordance with established procedures.
- Maintain a clean and organised work environment.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in operating industrial plant equipment, preferably in energy generation, wastewater treatment, or a similar heavy industrial setting.
- Strong understanding of mechanical, electrical, and control systems.
- Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, electrical schematics, and operational manuals.
- Demonstrated commitment to safety and environmental compliance.
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
- Basic computer proficiency for data entry and system monitoring.
Preferred Qualifications
- Relevant trade qualification (e.g., Mechanical Fitter, Electrician, Instrumentation Technician).
- Experience with bioenergy, biogas, or waste-to-energy plant operations.
- Forklift license and/or experience operating heavy machinery.
- Knowledge of SCADA systems and distributed control systems (DCS).
- First Aid and CPR certification.
