Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and professional Anaesthetist Assistant to join our surgical support team at Goulburn Base Hospital. In this crucial role, you will work closely with anaesthetists, nurses, and other theatre staff to ensure the smooth and safe delivery of anaesthesia services during surgical procedures. Your primary focus will be on preparing equipment, assisting with patient care, monitoring vital signs, and maintaining a sterile environment. This on-site position requires a commitment to patient safety, excellent communication skills, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced operating theatre setting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist anaesthetists with the preparation of patients and equipment for anaesthesia.
  • Set up, check, and maintain anaesthetic machines and monitoring equipment.
  • Prepare intravenous lines and assist with the administration of medications under direct supervision.
  • Monitor patient vital signs and report any changes or concerns to the anaesthetist.
  • Assist with patient positioning for surgical procedures and anaesthesia administration.
  • Maintain a clean, organised, and sterile operating theatre environment.
  • Retrieve, clean, and restock anaesthetic supplies and equipment.
  • Assist with patient transport to and from the operating theatre.
  • Document relevant information accurately in patient records.
  • Adhere to all hospital policies, procedures, and infection control guidelines.

Required Skills

  • Certificate III or IV in Health Services Assistance (Operating Theatre Technician pathway) or equivalent.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Demonstrated understanding of medical terminology and anatomical knowledge.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a high-pressure environment.
  • Commitment to patient safety and confidentiality.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in an operating theatre or acute care setting.
  • Advanced Life Support (ALS) certification.
  • Experience with electronic health record systems.
  • Willingness to undertake further professional development.
