Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and meticulous Part-time Sterilization Assistant to join our medical team in Devonport. This vital role ensures the highest standards of infection control by processing, sterilizing, storing, and distributing medical and surgical instruments and equipment. Working primarily during day shifts, you will play a crucial part in maintaining a safe and efficient environment for our patients and clinical staff. Key Responsibilities

  • Clean, disinfect, and sterilize surgical instruments and equipment according to established protocols and standards.
  • Operate and maintain sterilization equipment such as autoclaves, ensuring proper function and record-keeping.
  • Inspect instruments for cleanliness, functionality, and proper assembly prior to sterilization.
  • Package instruments correctly for sterilization and storage.
  • Maintain accurate logs and records of sterilization cycles, equipment maintenance, and inventory.
  • Distribute sterile instruments and supplies to various departments as needed.
  • Monitor and manage stock levels of sterile supplies, reporting discrepancies or needs.
  • Adhere to all hospital policies, procedures, and relevant health and safety regulations.
  • Participate in ongoing training and professional development as required.

Required Skills

  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.

  • Basic understanding of infection control principles.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience in a sterilization department (CSSD) or similar healthcare setting.
  • Certificate III or IV in Health Services Assistance (Sterilisation Services).
  • Familiarity with medical terminology and instrument identification.
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification.
