Job Description
Are you a motivated law student with a passion for legal research and a keen eye for detail? MinterEllison is offering a unique Summer Internship opportunity focused on legal research within our dynamic Newcastle office. This program is designed to provide hands-on experience in a leading commercial law firm, allowing you to apply your academic knowledge to real-world legal challenges. You will work alongside experienced lawyers, contributing to complex cases and projects, enhancing your research, analytical, and professional skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive legal research using various databases (e.g., LexisNexis, Westlaw, CCH) and other resources.
- Draft clear and concise research memoranda, summaries, and reports on a variety of legal topics.
- Assist lawyers with case preparation, document review, and factual investigation.
- Support the team in preparing for client meetings, presentations, and court hearings.
- Analyze legislation, case law, and scholarly articles to provide insightful legal advice.
- Maintain organized research files and contribute to the firm's knowledge management systems.
- Participate in team meetings, training sessions, and firm events to gain a broader understanding of legal practice.
Required Skills
- Currently enrolled in a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) or Juris Doctor (JD) program.
- Demonstrated strong academic performance in law subjects.
- Excellent legal research skills, including proficiency with online legal databases.
- Superior written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- High level of attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Completion of at least two years of a law degree program.
- Previous experience in a legal or professional office environment (e.g., part-time job, volunteer work).
- Familiarity with specific areas of commercial law, such as corporate, property, or litigation.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
