Job Description
Are you passionate about making a tangible difference in the community? Mission Australia is seeking a motivated Community Development Intern with a strong social impact focus to join our team in Cairns. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in community development, project coordination, and social impact measurement within a leading not-for-profit organization. You will support various initiatives aimed at empowering individuals and strengthening community resilience, contributing directly to our mission of creating a fairer, more inclusive Australia.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of community development programs and initiatives.
- Conduct research and data collection to support program development and impact reporting.
- Support community engagement activities, including workshops, events, and focus groups.
- Help develop communication materials and outreach strategies to promote programs.
- Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to achieve project objectives.
- Provide administrative support to the community development team.
- Contribute to the identification of community needs and opportunities for social impact.
Required Skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- A genuine passion for social justice and community empowerment.
- Proactive attitude and willingness to learn.
Preferred Qualifications
- Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Social Work, Community Development, Public Policy, or a related field.
- Previous volunteer or work experience in a community-focused role.
- Understanding of local community issues and demographics in the Cairns region.
- Experience with data analysis or report writing.
