Job Description

In this essential role, you will provide critical support to soil scientists and researchers, assisting with fieldwork, laboratory analysis, and data management. Key Responsibilities

  • Assist soil scientists in planning and conducting field surveys and sampling activities across diverse agricultural landscapes.
  • Collect, label, and transport soil samples according to established protocols and safety guidelines.
  • Perform routine laboratory analyses on soil samples, including pH, nutrient content, organic matter, and texture analysis.
  • Maintain and calibrate laboratory equipment, ensuring accuracy and reliability of results.
  • Accurately record and manage field and laboratory data, contributing to research databases.
  • Prepare reports, summaries, and presentations under the guidance of senior scientists.
  • Adhere to all workplace health and safety procedures and environmental regulations.
  • Contribute to the general maintenance and tidiness of the laboratory and field equipment.

Required Skills

  • Basic understanding of soil science principles or environmental science.
  • Proficiency in data entry and basic computer applications (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite).
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions and work independently or as part of a team.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data collection and analysis.
  • Good physical fitness for fieldwork, including lifting and carrying equipment.
  • Valid Australian driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Soil Science, Environmental Science, Agricultural Science, or a related field.
  • Previous experience in a laboratory or field setting, particularly with soil sampling or analysis.
  • Familiarity with GIS software or data analysis tools.
  • Knowledge of Queensland agricultural practices or environmental regulations.
