Job Description
Join the dynamic team at Newcastle Cruising Yacht Club as a Boat Yard Hand. We are seeking enthusiastic and physically capable individuals who thrive in an outdoor, coastal environment. This role is perfect for those who enjoy hands-on work, are passionate about boats, and appreciate the vibrant atmosphere of a busy marina. You will be instrumental in the smooth operation of our boat yard, assisting with various tasks to ensure our members’ vessels are well-maintained and our facilities are in top condition. Key Responsibilities
- Assisting with boat movements, including launching, retrieving, and cradling vessels.
- Performing general yard maintenance and cleaning duties to uphold high standards.
- Operating marine lifting equipment (travel lift, forklift) under supervision, post-training.
- Supporting marine trades (mechanics, shipwrights, painters) with various tasks as required.
- Maintaining a safe, clean, and organized work environment at all times.
- Assisting customers and members with their boating needs, providing friendly service.
- Performing minor repairs and maintenance on club equipment and facilities.
- Adhering to all health, safety, and environmental policies and procedures.
Required Skills
- Strong physical fitness and ability to lift heavy objects and perform manual labor.
- Reliability, punctuality, and a strong work ethic.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Basic understanding of general tools and equipment.
- Excellent communication skills and a positive attitude.
- Willingness to learn new skills and adapt to various tasks.
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
- A proactive approach to problem-solving and task completion.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a marine environment, boat yard, or general labor role.
- Basic boating knowledge or practical experience with vessels.
- Forklift license or a strong willingness to obtain one.
- First Aid certification.
- Coxswain Grade 1 Near Coastal or similar boating qualification.
