Job Description

We are seeking dedicated and vigilant School Crossing Supervisors to ensure the safety of children crossing roads before and after school hours. This vital community role involves managing traffic flow, providing clear signals to pedestrians and motorists, and acting as a visible and reassuring presence for our school communities. This is a rewarding part-time opportunity for individuals who are passionate about child safety and community service.

Key Responsibilities

  • Safely supervise school children and pedestrians crossing designated roads during peak school times.
  • Manage and control vehicle traffic to allow safe passage for pedestrians.
  • Adhere strictly to all traffic regulations and established safety procedures.
  • Communicate effectively with children, parents, and motorists to ensure understanding of crossing procedures.
  • Report any incidents, hazards, or concerns promptly to the appropriate authorities.
  • Maintain a professional and friendly demeanor, representing the City of Greater Geelong.
  • Wear the provided uniform and safety equipment at all times while on duty.

Required Skills

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong sense of responsibility and reliability.
  • Ability to work independently and make quick, sound decisions.
  • A clear understanding of road safety rules and pedestrian behavior.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods in varying weather conditions.
  • Successful completion of a Working with Children Check (or willingness to obtain one).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a community-facing or supervisory role.
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Knowledge of local school routes and traffic patterns in Geelong.
