Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Extrusion Technician to join our dynamic team in Horsham. As an Extrusion Technician, you will be responsible for operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting extrusion lines to produce high-quality plastic products. This role requires a strong understanding of extrusion processes, materials, and safety protocols. You will play a crucial part in ensuring production efficiency and product quality within our manufacturing facility. Key Responsibilities
- Operate single and twin-screw extrusion lines in accordance with established procedures and safety guidelines.
- Monitor machine parameters, including temperature, pressure, and speed, to ensure optimal performance and product quality.
- Perform routine maintenance and preventative checks on extrusion equipment, including dies, screws, and cooling systems.
- Troubleshoot and resolve operational issues, such as material flow problems, product defects, and machine malfunctions.
- Conduct quality control checks on extruded products to ensure adherence to specifications and standards.
- Prepare and load raw materials (polymers, additives) into hoppers, ensuring correct material usage.
- Maintain accurate production records, including downtime, output, and material consumption.
- Adhere to all company safety regulations, environmental policies, and quality management systems.
- Collaborate with production supervisors and other team members to optimize production processes and meet targets.
- Assist in setting up new production runs and making necessary adjustments to achieve desired product outcomes.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as an Extrusion Technician in the plastic manufacturing industry.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, blueprints, and production specifications.
- Familiarity with various plastic polymers and their properties (e.g., HDPE, LDPE, PP, PET).
- Proficiency in operating and maintaining extrusion machinery.
- Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality work.
- Strong understanding of health and safety regulations within a manufacturing environment.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Good communication skills to report issues and collaborate with colleagues.
- Physical ability to stand for extended periods, lift heavy materials, and work in a manufacturing environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- NVQ Level 2 or equivalent in Manufacturing, Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience with lean manufacturing principles or continuous improvement methodologies.
- Forklift certification.
- Familiarity with quality management systems (e.g., ISO 9001).
- Knowledge of basic computer systems for data entry and machine interface.
