Job Description
Are you eager to launch your career in global trade and logistics? Kuehne+Nagel is seeking a motivated Customs Broker Intern to join our Global Trade Mentorship program in Sunderland. This unique internship offers hands-on experience in customs regulations, import/export procedures, and international trade compliance. You will work alongside experienced customs professionals, gaining invaluable insights into the complexities of global supply chains. This is an exceptional opportunity for individuals passionate about international business to learn from industry leaders and contribute to real-world projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist senior customs brokers with the preparation and submission of customs documentation.
- Learn to classify goods using harmonized system (HS) codes.
- Support the research and interpretation of international trade regulations and tariffs.
- Help maintain accurate records and databases for customs declarations.
- Collaborate with internal teams and external clients to ensure timely and compliant customs clearance.
- Participate in training sessions and workshops focused on global trade compliance and best practices.
- Contribute to process improvement initiatives within the customs department.
Required Skills
- Strong interest in international trade, logistics, or supply chain management.
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Ability to learn quickly and adapt to new information and systems.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Proactive attitude and a willingness to take initiative.
Preferred Qualifications
- Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in International Business, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or a related field.
- Prior exposure to customs or trade compliance through coursework or personal interest.
- Familiarity with Incoterms 2020.
- Basic understanding of customs valuation and duties.
