Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Junior Fire Safety Engineer to join our Civil Engineering team in Tweed Heads. This is an excellent opportunity for a recent graduate or an individual with 0-2 years of experience looking to build a career in fire safety engineering within the civil and building environment. You will work alongside experienced engineers, contributing to the design, analysis, and assessment of fire safety systems for a diverse range of projects, ensuring compliance with Australian building codes and standards. This role provides a fantastic pathway for professional development and mentorship within a global firm.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the preparation of fire engineering design reports and performance solutions.
  • Conduct fire risk assessments and develop fire safety strategies for civil infrastructure and buildings.
  • Support senior engineers in the analysis of fire and smoke movement using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and other analytical tools.
  • Contribute to the development of fire protection system designs, including sprinklers, fire alarms, and passive fire protection.
  • Participate in site inspections and assessments to ensure compliance with fire safety regulations and design specifications.
  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary project teams, clients, and regulatory authorities.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant Australian fire safety codes, standards, and industry best practices.
  • Prepare technical documentation, drawings, and specifications under supervision.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Fire Safety Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Strong foundational knowledge of fire science and engineering principles.
  • Familiarity with the National Construction Code (NCC) and Australian Standards related to fire safety.
  • Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit) or willingness to learn.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical capabilities.
  • Demonstrated enthusiasm for continuous learning and professional development.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous internship or work experience in a fire safety or civil engineering consultancy.
  • Exposure to fire modelling software (e.g., FDS, Pyrosim).
  • Membership or eligibility for membership with Engineers Australia.
