Job Description

We are seeking a highly organised and detail-oriented WFH Cataloguing Assistant to join our Digital Library team. This is a fantastic opportunity for an individual passionate about information organisation and digital content management to contribute to accessible knowledge resources from the comfort of their home. You will play a crucial role in ensuring the accurate and efficient cataloguing of digital materials, enhancing their discoverability and usability for our academic and research communities. This position is 100% remote.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform accurate and consistent cataloguing of digital resources (e.g., e-books, journals, datasets, multimedia) using established metadata standards (e.g., MARC, Dublin Core).
  • Ensure the quality, integrity, and accessibility of digital library records.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of controlled vocabularies and authority files.
  • Collaborate with content acquisition and technical teams to streamline workflow processes.
  • Identify and resolve cataloguing discrepancies and data quality issues.
  • Participate in ongoing training and professional development related to evolving cataloguing standards and digital library technologies.
  • Provide support for special projects related to digital collection development and preservation.

Required Skills

  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong organisational and time management abilities.
  • Proficiency in data entry and database management.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Ability to work independently and manage workload effectively in a remote setting.
  • Basic understanding of library cataloguing principles or metadata concepts.
  • Proficiency with standard office software (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Library Science, Information Management, English, or a related field.
  • Experience with library management systems (LMS) or digital asset management (DAM) platforms.
  • Familiarity with specific metadata standards (e.g., MARC21, RDA, Dublin Core).
  • Experience working with digital collections or in an academic library environment.
  • Basic understanding of XML or other markup languages.
