Job Description

Join Vestas as a Wind Turbine Technician, a pivotal role in maintaining and servicing our wind energy assets in the Goulburn region. This position is open to both dedicated trainees looking to start a career in renewable energy and experienced technicians seeking new challenges. You will be responsible for ensuring the optimal performance and reliability of wind turbine generators, contributing directly to Australia’s clean energy transition. Comprehensive training will be provided for those new to the field, while skilled technicians will leverage their expertise to lead complex maintenance tasks and mentor others. This is an on-site role crucial for the continuous operation of our wind farms.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair on wind turbine mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
  • Conduct preventative maintenance inspections and ensure all components are functioning optimally.
  • Diagnose and resolve technical issues efficiently to minimize downtime and ensure maximum energy production.
  • Adhere strictly to all safety protocols, environmental regulations, and company policies, ensuring a safe work environment for yourself and your team.
  • Complete accurate service reports, maintenance logs, and documentation of all work performed.
  • Participate in ongoing training and development programs to enhance skills and knowledge of new technologies.
  • Assist in the installation and commissioning of new wind turbine units as required, working effectively within a project team.

Required Skills

  • Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude with a desire to learn and grow in the renewable energy sector.
  • Ability to work safely at heights and in confined spaces, following all relevant safety procedures.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and a methodical approach to tasks.
  • Commitment to safety and adherence to strict safety procedures and regulations.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Physical fitness and ability to lift heavy equipment and perform demanding physical tasks.
  • For skilled technicians: Proven experience (minimum 2 years) in wind turbine maintenance, industrial maintenance, or a related heavy industry field.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Trade qualification in electrical, mechanical, or a related engineering discipline (for skilled roles).
  • Relevant industry certifications such as GWO Basic Safety Training (Working at Heights, First Aid, Manual Handling, Fire Awareness, Sea Survival).
  • Experience with SCADA systems or other diagnostic tools for wind turbine analysis.
  • First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Strong communication, teamwork, and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with colleagues and external partners.
