Job Description
We are seeking a passionate and knowledgeable Vintage Specialist to join our team in Glenorchy, Tasmania. This exciting role involves identifying, authenticating, valuing, and curating our diverse collection of vintage fashion and furniture. You will play a crucial role in enhancing the appeal and value of our donations, ensuring high-quality items are showcased effectively, and providing an exceptional experience for our customers who appreciate unique finds. Key Responsibilities
- Identify and authenticate vintage clothing, accessories, and furniture pieces.
- Research and accurately value items based on condition, rarity, historical significance, and market trends.
- Clean, repair, and prepare items for display, ensuring they meet quality standards.
- Curate visually appealing displays that highlight vintage collections within the store.
- Provide expert advice and information to customers regarding vintage items, their history, and care.
- Collaborate with the store management team on pricing strategies and promotions for vintage collections.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of vintage trends, designers, periods, and market demand.
- Assist with inventory management and online listings for premium vintage items.
- Contribute to a positive and knowledgeable store environment.
Required Skills
- Proven experience in identifying and authenticating vintage fashion and/or furniture (minimum 3 years).
- Strong knowledge of historical design periods, materials, and manufacturing techniques.
- Excellent research skills for valuing and understanding the provenance of items.
- Exceptional attention to detail and a keen eye for quality and craftsmanship.
- Strong communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Basic repair and restoration skills for textiles or furniture.
- Proficiency in using online resources for research and valuation.
Preferred Qualifications
- A degree or certification in fashion history, design, art history, conservation, or a related field.
- Experience working in an auction house, antique shop, museum, or high-end consignment store.
- Proficiency in photography for cataloguing and online listings.
- Knowledge of sustainable practices in retail.
