Job Description
Are you a passionate veterinary student eager to gain practical experience in a dynamic rural environment? Greencross Vets – Goulburn Valley is offering an invaluable student placement opportunity in Shepparton, Victoria. This placement is designed to provide final-year or advanced veterinary students with exposure to the diverse challenges and rewards of rural veterinary practice. You will work alongside experienced veterinarians, assisting with a wide range of cases involving both small animals and livestock, enhancing your clinical skills, and deepening your understanding of veterinary medicine in a community-focused setting. Key Responsibilities
- Assist veterinarians with daily consultations, examinations, and treatments for small animals and livestock.
- Observe and participate in surgical procedures, diagnostic imaging, and laboratory testing.
- Support the veterinary team with animal handling, restraint, and patient care.
- Engage in farm visits, learning about herd health management, preventative medicine, and emergency response for large animals.
- Maintain accurate patient records and assist with clinic administrative tasks.
- Participate in case discussions and contribute to team meetings.
- Adhere to all clinic protocols, safety guidelines, and animal welfare standards.
Required Skills
- Currently enrolled in a Bachelor of Veterinary Science or equivalent degree program (final or penultimate year preferred).
- Demonstrated passion for veterinary medicine and animal welfare.
- Basic understanding of animal anatomy, physiology, and common diseases.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Eagerness to learn and a proactive attitude.
- Ability to handle animals calmly and safely.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience with animal handling or in an animal care setting (volunteer or paid).
- Knowledge of Australian agricultural practices or rural animal health issues.
