Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Tunnel Operations Technician to join our Transport team in Springwood, QLD. In this critical role, you will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of our complex tunnel infrastructure, ensuring optimal traffic flow and rapid response to incidents. You will monitor systems, conduct routine inspections, and perform essential maintenance tasks to uphold the highest standards of safety and operational integrity for one of Australia’s vital transport corridors. This role is fundamental to keeping our cities moving.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor tunnel systems (SCADA, CCTV, ventilation, lighting, fire suppression) for optimal performance and early detection of anomalies.
- Respond promptly to incidents, emergencies, and alarms within the tunnel environment, coordinating with emergency services as required.
- Conduct regular inspections and preventative maintenance on tunnel operational equipment.
- Operate and adjust traffic management systems, including variable message signs (VMS) and lane usage signals.
- Document incidents, maintenance activities, and operational changes accurately and thoroughly.
- Collaborate with traffic management centres, maintenance crews, and external stakeholders to ensure seamless operations.
- Adhere to all safety protocols, operational procedures, and environmental regulations.
- Assist in the commissioning of new equipment and upgrades to existing systems.
Required Skills
- Minimum 3 years of experience in an operations or technical role, preferably within a transport, infrastructure, or industrial environment.
- Proficiency in monitoring and operating complex control systems (e.g., SCADA, BMS).
- Strong understanding of electrical, mechanical, and IT systems related to infrastructure.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to make quick, informed decisions under pressure.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, for incident reporting and team collaboration.
- Ability to work effectively in a shift-based roster, including nights, weekends, and public holidays.
- Valid Australian Driver's License.
Preferred Qualifications
- Relevant trade qualification (e.g., Electrical, Mechanical, Instrumentation) or a diploma in a related engineering field.
- Experience with ITS (Intelligent Transport Systems) technologies.
- First Aid and CPR certification.
- Knowledge of occupational health and safety regulations specific to tunnel or road environments.
