Job Description
We are seeking a diligent and skilled Street Sweeper Operator to join our Infrastructure team. This vital role involves operating street sweeping equipment to maintain the cleanliness and appearance of streets, kerbs, and public areas across the Berri Barmera Council region. The successful candidate will play a crucial part in ensuring a safe, clean, and attractive environment for residents and visitors.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate street sweeping machinery safely and efficiently to clean designated roads, footpaths, and public spaces.
- Perform daily pre-start checks and routine maintenance on equipment, including refilling water tanks and checking fuel levels.
- Report any mechanical defects or maintenance requirements promptly to the supervisor.
- Adhere to all traffic laws, council policies, and safety regulations while operating machinery.
- Assist with other general infrastructure and maintenance duties as required, including waste collection and minor roadworks.
- Maintain accurate logs of sweeping routes, materials used, and work completed.
- Engage respectfully with the public and represent the Council professionally.
Required Skills
- Valid Australian Driver's Licence (HR or HC class preferred, or willingness to obtain).
- Proven experience operating heavy vehicles or machinery (minimum 2 years).
- Strong understanding of road safety regulations and procedures.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Good communication skills and attention to detail.
- Physical fitness to perform manual tasks as required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience as a Street Sweeper Operator.
- Current First Aid Certificate.
- White Card (Construction Induction Card).
