Job Description

We are seeking an exceptionally skilled and dedicated Stonemason to join our expert team in Wodonga, Victoria. This high-paying role involves working on a diverse portfolio of projects, encompassing both the meticulous restoration of heritage structures and the precise construction of contemporary stone elements. The successful candidate will possess a deep understanding of traditional stonemasonry techniques, coupled with the ability to adapt to modern construction methods and materials. Key Responsibilities

  • Execute all aspects of stonemasonry, including cutting, shaping, dressing, laying, and pointing of various stone types (e.g., granite, sandstone, marble, bluestone).
  • Perform meticulous restoration and conservation work on heritage buildings, ensuring adherence to historical accuracy and material specifications.
  • Interpret blueprints, architectural drawings, and specifications to accurately plan and execute stonework.
  • Operate and maintain a variety of hand and power tools safely and efficiently, including saws, grinders, chisels, and lifting equipment.
  • Work collaboratively with project managers, architects, and other trades to ensure seamless project delivery.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe working environment, adhering to all company and industry safety standards.
  • Inspect and assess existing stone structures for damage, wear, and potential repair or replacement needs.
  • Source and select appropriate stone materials, considering durability, aesthetics, and project requirements.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a Stonemason, with a strong portfolio showcasing both heritage and modern projects.
  • Expertise in traditional stonemasonry techniques, including lime mortar pointing, carving, and intricate detailing.
  • Proficiency in modern stone fabrication and installation methods.
  • Ability to read and interpret complex architectural drawings and specifications.
  • Strong understanding of stone types, their properties, and best practices for their use and maintenance.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality, durable work.
  • Physical fitness and stamina to perform demanding tasks in various weather conditions.
  • Current White Card (General Construction Induction Card).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certificate III in Stonemasonry (or equivalent recognized trade qualification).
  • Experience working on significant heritage-listed properties.
  • Proficiency in operating specialized stone-cutting machinery (e.g., CNC stone saws).
  • Knowledge of Australian building codes and heritage conservation guidelines.
  • Valid Driver's License.
