Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and meticulous Sterilization Assistant (Trainee) to join our Central Sterilising Services Department at The Tweed Hospital. This entry-level position is perfect for individuals eager to start a career in healthcare with no prior experience required. You will be instrumental in ensuring the cleanliness, sterility, and proper functioning of medical instruments and equipment, playing a critical role in patient safety and infection control. Full training will be provided.

Key Responsibilities

  • Process, clean, disinfect, and sterilize surgical instruments and medical equipment according to established protocols and standards.
  • Operate and monitor sterilization equipment such as autoclaves and washer-disinfectors.
  • Perform quality control checks on sterilized items to ensure compliance.
  • Maintain accurate records of sterilization cycles, inventory, and equipment maintenance.
  • Inspect instruments for damage or malfunction and report issues appropriately.
  • Assist with the assembly and packaging of instrument trays for various departments.
  • Adhere strictly to infection control policies and procedures.
  • Participate in ongoing training and professional development.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
