Job Description
The Tweed Shire Council is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Assistant Statistician to join our dynamic team. This entry-level role is ideal for a recent graduate or an individual with foundational experience eager to apply their statistical knowledge in a meaningful public service context. You will support various departments by collecting, processing, and analyzing data, contributing to informed policy development, project evaluation, and strategic planning across the shire. Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the collection, compilation, and validation of statistical data from various sources.
- Perform basic statistical analysis and prepare preliminary reports and summaries.

- Support senior statisticians in designing surveys, studies, and data collection methodologies.
- Prepare data visualizations (charts, graphs, tables) to present findings clearly.
- Respond to internal data requests and provide statistical information as required.

Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, or a related quantitative field.
- Proficiency in statistical software (e.g., R, SAS, SPSS, Python for data analysis).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to communicate statistical information clearly to non-technical audiences.
- Solid understanding of basic statistical principles and methodologies.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.
Preferred Qualifications
- Postgraduate qualification in Statistics or a related field.
