Job Description
We are offering an invaluable clinical field placement opportunity for Social Work Students looking to gain hands-on experience within a dynamic healthcare setting. This placement will provide exposure to various social work interventions, case management, and interdisciplinary collaboration across different clinical areas. You will work under the direct supervision of experienced and accredited social workers, applying theoretical knowledge to real-world situations and developing essential professional competencies. Key Responsibilities
- Assist qualified social workers in conducting biopsychosocial assessments of patients and their families.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of care plans, including discharge planning and linking patients to community resources.
- Participate in individual and family counselling, support, and crisis intervention under supervision.
- Engage in interdisciplinary team meetings and collaborate with medical, nursing, and allied health professionals.
- Maintain accurate and timely patient records in compliance with organisational standards.
- Advocate for patient rights and facilitate access to appropriate services and entitlements.
- Undertake assigned projects and research relevant to social work practice in a hospital setting.
- Adhere to professional ethical standards, confidentiality guidelines, and organisational policies.
Required Skills
- Currently enrolled in an accredited Bachelor or Master of Social Work program.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Demonstrated empathy, compassion, and cultural sensitivity.
- Basic understanding of social work theories and intervention models.
- Proficiency in basic computer applications (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite).
- Commitment to continuous learning and professional development.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior volunteer experience in a healthcare or community service setting.
- Familiarity with the Australian healthcare system and community resources in Western Sydney.
- Experience working with diverse populations, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
