Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Cemetery Grounds Assistant to join our team in Echuca. This role is integral to maintaining the serene and dignified environment of our cemetery grounds. You will be responsible for general grounds maintenance, ensuring the presentation of our facilities meets the highest standards of respect and care. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to a meaningful service within the community, working outdoors in a reflective setting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform general grounds maintenance, including mowing, edging, weeding, and pruning.
  • Assist with the preparation of grave sites for interments, ensuring dignity and precision.
  • Maintain all garden beds, pathways, and public areas to a high standard of cleanliness and presentation.
  • Operate and maintain a variety of groundskeeping equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Support the broader team with various site tasks as required, including waste management.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols and environmental guidelines.
  • Interact respectfully with visitors and families, providing assistance and information as needed.
  • Contribute to a positive and supportive team environment.

Required Skills

  • Physical fitness and ability to perform manual labour in various weather conditions.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate grounds maintenance equipment (e.g., mowers, trimmers).
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining high standards of presentation.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • A respectful and empathetic demeanor, especially when interacting with grieving families.
  • Valid Australian Driver's License.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in groundskeeping, horticulture, or a similar outdoor maintenance role.
  • Experience operating light plant machinery (e.g., mini-excavator, tractor).
  • Certification in Horticulture or Landscaping.
  • First Aid certification.
