Job Description

Join our friendly team at St. Patrick’s College as a Canteen Assistant for casual day shifts during term time only. We are seeking an enthusiastic and reliable individual to assist with the daily operations of our school canteen, providing healthy and appealing food options to our students and staff. This role is perfect for someone looking for flexible work hours that align with school terms, contributing to a positive school experience for our community.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and serve food and beverages to students and staff in a timely and hygienic manner.
  • Assist with stock rotation, inventory management, and ordering supplies.
  • Maintain a clean and organised kitchen and serving area, adhering to all food safety standards.
  • Operate point-of-sale systems and handle cash/card transactions accurately.
  • Assist with menu planning and preparation under the guidance of the Canteen Manager.
  • Ensure all equipment is cleaned and maintained after use.
  • Adhere to the college's policies and procedures, including health and safety guidelines.

Required Skills

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to maintain high standards of hygiene and cleanliness.
  • Basic numeracy skills for handling transactions and stock.
  • Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently.
  • A current Working With Vulnerable People (WWVP) check or willingness to obtain one.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a canteen, cafe, or food service environment.
  • Knowledge of basic food preparation and handling techniques.
  • Current First Aid certification.
