Job Description
We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Sandblaster / Coater to join our heavy industrial team in Fyshwick, ACT. This role involves preparing surfaces and applying protective coatings to a wide range of industrial equipment, structures, and components, ensuring longevity and compliance with stringent quality standards. The successful candidate will be pivotal in maintaining the integrity and appearance of critical assets within a challenging heavy industrial environment. Attention to detail, adherence to safety protocols, and a strong work ethic are essential for this hands-on position.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare surfaces for coating by abrasive blasting (sandblasting) to achieve specified surface profiles.
- Operate and maintain abrasive blasting equipment safely and efficiently.
- Apply various protective coatings (paints, epoxies, polyurethanes) using spray guns, rollers, and brushes.
- Inspect surfaces and finished coatings for defects, ensuring compliance with specifications and quality standards.
- Mix, thin, and control coating materials according to manufacturer's instructions.
- Maintain a clean and organised work area, ensuring proper disposal of waste materials.
- Adhere strictly to all health, safety, and environmental policies and procedures.
- Perform routine maintenance on blasting and coating equipment.
- Work collaboratively with other team members and supervisors to meet project deadlines.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Sandblaster and/or Industrial Coater, preferably in a heavy industrial setting.
- Demonstrated ability to operate abrasive blasting equipment (e.g., pot blasters, recovery systems).
- Proficiency in applying various industrial coatings using conventional and airless spray equipment.
- Strong understanding of surface preparation standards (e.g., SSPC, NACE) and coating application techniques.
- Ability to read and interpret technical specifications and coating data sheets.
- Commitment to workplace safety and understanding of hazardous materials handling.
- Physical fitness to perform manual tasks, lift heavy objects, and work in various positions.
- Valid Australian Driver's License.
Preferred Qualifications
- Relevant trade qualification (e.g., Certificate III in Surface Preparation and Coating).
- Experience with plural component coating systems.
- Forklift license.
- Confined space entry certification.
- Working at heights certification.
