Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Remote Data Scraper with a strong focus on IT and Python to join our innovative team. This is a 100% remote position, allowing you to work from anywhere within Australia. As a Data Scraper, you will be responsible for developing, maintaining, and optimizing automated data extraction processes from various online sources. You will play a crucial role in gathering valuable data that will drive critical business decisions and provide insights for our clients. The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of web technologies, data structures, and best practices for ethical and efficient scraping.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain robust and scalable web scraping scripts using Python and relevant libraries (e.g., Beautiful Soup, Scrapy, Selenium).
- Identify and implement strategies to bypass anti-scraping mechanisms (e.g., CAPTCHAs, IP blocking, user-agent rotation).
- Clean, transform, and store extracted data in structured formats (e.g., CSV, JSON, databases).
- Monitor data quality and integrity, ensuring accuracy and completeness of scraped information.
- Troubleshoot and debug existing scraping processes, identifying root causes of issues and implementing effective solutions.
- Collaborate with data analysts and other team members to understand data requirements and deliver data in desired formats.
- Stay updated with the latest web scraping technologies, tools, and best practices.
- Document scraping processes, data schemas, and technical specifications.
Required Skills
- Proficiency in Python programming, particularly for web scraping and data manipulation.
- Experience with web scraping libraries such as Scrapy, Beautiful Soup, or Selenium.
- Strong understanding of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript for parsing web pages.
- Familiarity with various data storage formats (CSV, JSON, XML) and database systems (SQL, NoSQL).
- Knowledge of web protocols (HTTP/HTTPS) and REST APIs.
- Problem-solving skills and ability to adapt to changing website structures.
- Excellent attention to detail and data accuracy.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related quantitative field.
- Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) for deploying and scaling scraping solutions.
- Familiarity with version control systems, especially Git.
- Knowledge of proxy services and VPNs for web scraping.
- Understanding of data governance and compliance regulations related to data collection.
- Experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI) is a plus.
