Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Private Certifier (Assistant) to join our dynamic Construction team on the Gold Coast. This is an excellent opportunity for an emerging professional to gain hands-on experience in building certification and contribute to exciting construction projects across the region. The successful candidate will work under the guidance of experienced Private Certifiers, assisting with building approvals, inspections, and ensuring compliance with the National Construction Code (NCC) and other relevant Australian standards and legislation. Key Responsibilities

  • Assist senior Private Certifiers with the assessment of building plans and documentation for compliance with the National Construction Code (NCC) and relevant Australian Standards.
  • Conduct site inspections at various stages of construction, under supervision, to ensure works comply with approved plans and building regulations.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate records, reports, and documentation related to building approvals and inspections.
  • Liaise with builders, developers, architects, and other stakeholders, providing professional and clear advice on building code requirements.
  • Support the preparation of building approval applications and issue relevant certificates.
  • Stay updated on changes to building legislation, codes, and industry best practices.
  • Participate in team meetings and professional development activities.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree or Diploma in Building Surveying, Construction Management, Architecture, or a related field.
  • Basic understanding of the National Construction Code (NCC) and relevant Australian Standards.
  • Excellent attention to detail and strong analytical skills.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Current Australian Driver's License and access to reliable transport for site visits.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience (e.g., internships, entry-level roles) in building surveying, construction, or a regulatory environment.
  • Familiarity with building approval software systems.
  • Membership or working towards membership with a relevant professional body (e.g., AIBS, RICS).
  • Understanding of local government planning schemes relevant to the Gold Coast region.
