Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Policy Analyst Intern to join our Government Relations team for a placement opportunity in Canning Vale. This internship offers a unique chance to gain hands-on experience in policy analysis, stakeholder engagement, and government advocacy within a leading global resources company. The successful candidate will contribute to our strategic efforts to understand, monitor, and influence public policy relevant to our operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in monitoring, researching, and analyzing legislative and regulatory developments at federal and state levels that impact BHP's business interests.
- Prepare concise summaries, briefs, and reports on key policy issues for internal stakeholders.
- Support the Government Relations team in stakeholder mapping and engagement activities.
- Contribute to the development of policy positions and advocacy materials.
- Attend and report on relevant parliamentary hearings, industry events, and stakeholder meetings.
- Conduct ad-hoc research projects on emerging policy trends and their potential implications for the company.
- Collaborate with internal departments (e.g., Sustainability, Legal, Operations) to gather information and ensure alignment on policy matters.
Required Skills
- Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's degree program in Political Science, Public Policy, Law, International Relations, Economics, or a related field.
- Strong research and analytical skills, with the ability to synthesize complex information.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated interest in public policy, government affairs, and the resources sector.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience in a research-intensive role, student government, or volunteer work related to policy or advocacy.
- Familiarity with the Australian political landscape and regulatory environment.
- Understanding of the resources industry and its contribution to the economy.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
